Fall In Love With DUCKS FALL IN CORVALLIS TO OPEN PAC-12 PLAY. In the teams’ Pac-12 debuts at Gill Coliseum on Sunday afternoon. Oregon was unable to withstand a second-half surge from Oregon State, losing 62-41 to the Beavers.

In the first half, the Ducks restricted the Beavers to 15 points on 22 ,percent shooting. But in the second half OSU exploded for 47 points at a 60 percent shooting percentage. With 3:13 remaining in the third quarter. Oregon State took their first game lead thanks to a 14-point outburst. Oregon went into the locker room ahead 23–15 and had led by as many as 13 points in the first half.

According to Kelly Graves, the head coach of UO, “everything changed (in the second half).” “We did not get more aggressive, but they did. We controlled the tempo, produced outstanding moves, and prolonged possessions in what I thought was a fantastic first half. However, we let ourselves down in the second half, and things quickly got out of hand.”

Despite only scoring 18 points, UO hit six field goals in the second half, going 6-for-26 (23%) overall. The only other player to score in double digits for the Ducks was Grace VanSlooten, who finished with 15 points. Chance Grey scored nine points, and center Phillipina Kyei pulled down 16 rebounds. She was ending her run of eight games with double-digit scoring performances.

Graves said, “Our big three didn’t have a great shooting night.” That’s difficult, and nothing came easily in the second half when we could not purchase a bucket. However, praise Oregon State for being a strong team. We demonstrated that, while we must play for 40 minutes instead of 20, we can play with anyone.”

With 24 points and 17 rebounds. OSU’s Raegan Beers topped all players and recorded her ninth double-double of the year. Good for first place in the Pac-12. Oregon State outscored UO’s bench 16-3 while holding a 22-4 advantage in points in the paint.

How It Happened: With less than two minutes remaining in the first quarter, the Ducks took a 13-6 lead thanks to an early 7-0 Oregon run. After the first quarter, Kennedy Basham made two midrange jumpers and Grey made a 3-pointer to give UO a 15–8 advantage. By the end of the quarter, OSU had only made one of its final eight field goals.

After holding OSU to a 1-for-8 shooting start to the second quarter, the Ducks kept the Beavers scoreless for the opening five and a half minutes of play. The Beavers shot 22 percent (7-for-22) at the half, while UO shot 37 percent (11-for-30).

VanSlooten scored eight points in the first twenty minutes of the game, matching his game best, while Kyei pulled down eleven of Oregon’s 24 rebounds to help the Ducks take an eight-point lead at the half.

The Ducks’ offense failed to get going in the second half, so the script completely changed in the locker room. In the third quarter, Oregon shot 3-for-13 from the field, with VanSlooten accounting for two of the three made baskets.

With 2:41 remaining in the third, a 3-pointer by Lily Hansford gave the Beavers their first lead of the game, 31-29. OSU took a 37-31 lead after three-quarters thanks to a 14-0 surge that saw them score 17 of the last 19 points.

The Beavers carried over their strong shooting into the fourth quarter, making nine of their eleven (11 for 17) field goals and hitting 65 percent of them. Beers made all six of her field goal tries and scored 13 of her 24 points in the quarter.

For the second consecutive quarter, UO’s squad shot 3-for-13, going on to shoot 6-for-26 from the field in the second half. In the second half, OSU shot 60% compared to the Ducks’ 23%.
