After defeating LIU and Missouri 8–1, the Nebraska Cornhuskers are still without a doubt in the lead. The Huskers outscored Mizzou 75-54 thanks in large part to Bergen Reilly’s four aces against Missouri, three of which came in the opening six plays of the game. This was especially significant for a club that has struggled with the serve this season. On Thursday in Lincoln, Nebraska takes on Georgia Tech (5).
Highlights of Nebraska vs. Missouri
- Wisconsin
The Badgers, who defeated both a resilient Miami club and Jackson State, are also without a doubt the best team in the country. With home-court advantage, they take on Penn State (5) on Thursday. - The Pitt volleyball team
Pitt has had the most practise of any of the top seeds thus far. And in the second round, the Pitt block led the Panthers to a four-set triumph despite losing a set to (8) Southern California. Olivia Babcock’s 16 kills, 12 digs, and six blocks helped the Panthers stave off the Trojans in the last three sets after both teams shot low.087 (Pitt) and.089 (USC) with 13 ties and five lead changes in the opening stanza. The top seed will now have to defend its home floor one again when it plays fourth-seeded Washington State on Thursday afternoon. - The Oregon
Oregon is up next, having already shut out Hawaii and Southeastern Louisiana in the tournament, demonstrating their unforgiving nature. Next on the schedule is Purdue - Louisville
Volleyball in Louisville
Even though Louisville lost the first set to Wright State, they are still in the top 5. Whether the Cardinals are ranked higher or lower may be debatable, but on Thursday they will face a formidable Creighton squad. - Stanford
In their match against Houston last night, the Cardinals narrowly escaped becoming the first 1-seed to lose in the tournament. Stanford nearly pulled off a reverse sweep, faltering in the last moments to lose the third and fourth sets before winning the match in five games. With 16 kills, Kendall Kipp had her lowest-scoring five-setter of the year. Despite winning, Stanford will have to contend with a formidable Arizona State team in the regionals.
🎥 How Stanford won five sets over Houston
Kentucky, seventh
Kentucky, ranked second, easily defeated Wofford and Baylor in straight sets. Baylor had defeated (7) JMU in the opening round. Now, the Razorbacks await them in the round of 16.
Texas
Despite losing the first set, Texas defeated Texas A&M in the first round in a blocking display that saw both teams score 14 points apiece. Asjia O’Neal and Madisen Skinner are putting up big numbers. So Thursday game versus Tennessee will be fiercely contested.
TN
Speaking of Tennessee, the Lady Vols defeated High Point. And Western Kentucky to move up to the number six spot in these rankings, directly below their next opponent. Tennessee vs. the defending champions promises to be an interesting matchup.
Arizona State
Arizona State is ranked No. 10. Despite not being picked as a top-16 seed this team is performing like a top-10 squad. As seen by their convincing victory over Georgia in the opening round and their straight-set victory against #4 BYU on Saturday. A tentative Stanford squad faces a serious challenge from the Sun Devils, who possess all the necessary components and are currently playing with confidence.
The state of Arkansas
With a four-set victory against TCU in the second round. And a sweeping of SFA in the first, the (3) Razorbacks are ranked No. 11. Throughout the competition, Jill Gillen and Taylor Head have produced impressive kill totals of 29 and 32, respectively, making them entertaining to watch.
Creighton Volleyball Team
After being pushed to five sets earlier in the season by the Golden Gophers, the Bluejays demonstrated their progress in the tournament by sweeping Minnesota in the second round. This, along with a 3-0 victory against Colgate, positions (3) Creighton to surprise Louisville.
The Purdue
Purdue slides in at thirteen. In a four-set victory against (6) Marquette, Eva Hudson unleashed 27 kills; the Boilermakers will next take on Oregon.
The State of Washington
After defeating (5) Dayton in four sets and sweeping GCU, the Cougs are rated No. 14, though it is reasonable to argue that they should be higher. They’ve played with great poise thus far in the tournament, and when they play (1) Pitt in the regional semifinals, they’ll be a team to watch.
Georgia Institute of Technology
Volleyball at Georgia Tech
Florida was destroyed in five sets by the Yellow Jackets on Friday in one of the closest matches of the tournament. Tamara Otene’s 21 kills and Bianca Bertolino’s double-double of 17 digs and 18 kills led the effort. It will be fascinating to see if this club can handle the task against Nebraska on Thursday since they are a dangerous team at the service line and perform well in tight circumstances.

University of Pennsylvania
Penn State completes the top 16 teams, in the end. After dropping their first four sets in this tournament, the Nittany Lions will now play (1) Wisconsin.
